The mass potato planting started in Poltava oblast
In the end of past week the agricultural producers of Poltava oblast started mass potato planting, as it was reported by Yuriy Konyayev, the Market Information Specialist of Poltava office, Agricultural Marketing Project.
The majority of the producers were planning to finish the potato planting by the end of April, but cold snap may correct these plans a little extending the time limits of the planting period.
Yuriy Konyayev prognoses that in 2005 the potato production lands in Poltava oblast will be contracted on 15-20% that is the result of a very low purchase price on potato and low demand observed in the 2004 season.
At the same time the producers who grow this crop professionally, plan to extend significantly the acreage of the production lands - mainly for the production of the peculiar varieties which meet a great demand from the side of the wholesalers of Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk oblasts, trying to increase the level of demand form the side of the wholesalers.
