The Zakarpattya farmers report about delays of early potato harvesting
As the Zakarpattya farmers report, they will be able to get the early potato harvest only by the end of May that is 2-3 weeks later than usual; this information was provided by Alexander Koval, the Marketing Specialist of Zakarpattya office, Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP). This delay is the consequence the late potato planting in the open ground - because of bad weather in March the planting period was postponed for two weeks.
According to AMP evaluations, this year Zakarpattya farmers have significantly extended the acreage of the potato production lands. However, the mentioned harvest delay may decrease the production feasibility of Zakarpattya early potato considerably, as the farmers from the southern region of Ukraine will probably be able to supply this commodity on market 7-10 days earlier.
