Sales of early vegetables are enhancing in Lviv oblast

According to the information provided by Sergiy Gavryshev, the Market Information Specialist of Lviv office, Agricultural Marketing Project, the sales of early vegetables of harvest 2005 are growing week by week.

Early cabbage and radish produced in the open ground are the most popular commodities on market now, and also greenhouse cucumber and tomato.

Early cabbage of Zakarpattya origin is mostly sold on markets. During the previous week the price on this commodity has dropped down to USD $ 0.19/kg, so cabbage is mostly sold now on USD $ 0.59/kg. This year the cabbage supply is fewer comparing to the previous year because of rather low temperatures in Western Ukraine; the price is much higher consequently - at the same period of time in 2004 cabbage cost USD $ 0.29/kg, and there was no cabbage of past year harvest on market at all.

The supplied radish is produced in Lviv oblast, in the villages not far from Lviv city. Despite of rather unfavorable weather conditions, this year radish supply is nearly the same as it was past year, and the prices do not differ much (a bunch costs USD $ 0.19/kg). Radish from the other regions (Crimea and Kherson oblast) has been sold only in the beginning of season in small volumes and on high prices.

Greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers are still being supplied on markets; long cucumbers of Lviv oblast origin are sold on USD $ 0.79/kg, short cucumbers from Zakarpattya - on USD $ 0.99/kg (this commodity has cheapened on USD $ 0.19/kg since the previous week). Tomatoes from Ivano-Frankivsk oblast are still sold on USD $ 1.78- 1.98/kg.

This season for the first time sweet cherry has come on Lviv oblast market; this commodity was produced in Zakarpattya approximately at the same time as it was a year before. Sweet cherry costs USD $ 1.38/kg, past year the commodity of nearly the same quality cost USD $ 1.18/kg.
