Ukrainian government to withdraw 2.5-3 million tonnes of grain in 05/06 season

In the new season 2005/06 Ukrainian government is planning to withdraw 2.5-3 million tonnes of grain from the market, told Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Anatoliy Kinakh.

He said that on the background of abundant production of grains it is necessary to withdraw around 2.5-3 million tonnes to decrease pressure on the market.

In the current season the same strategy was kept. The government withdrew 3 million tonnes of grain this season.

In the next season the government will apply measures for local grain market regulation. Taking into account carryover stocks, Ukraine will have at least 42 million tonnes of grain in the beginning of new season.

Olexander Baranivskyy, Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, told that the Ministry was not going to change its total grain crop forecast for 05/06 season (37-38 million tonnes). This forecast is to be reviewed after June 15.
