Ukraine's Parliament rejected bills on oilseeds export duty amendment

Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine on May 21 turned down three options of the bill, stipulated amendments into the law on export duty for some oilseeds.

One of the bills proposed the currently effective 17 percent export duty for sunflower seeds to be retained from September to February and to be eliminated in the rest of season.

The second one assumed complete elimination of export duty for sunseeds and the third draft suggested one-time reduction of the duty to 16 percent with consecutive further reductions at 1 percent each year (starting from 2007), until it reaches 10 percent.

The law, stipulating 17 percent export duty for sunflower seeds on the year-round basis, has been thus left unchanged.
