According to the information provided by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Wholesale Price Monitoring Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), high quality strawberry meets stable demand in Kyiv, and customers are ready to pay for it much more than for strawberry of medium and bad quality. The premium quality is determined by some factors, the main are the modern production technology and adequate variety selection, cooled transportation and packing. "Today, for example, the "standard" strawberry was sold in boxes on USD 0.89/kg on Farmer market in Kyiv; at the same time the premium-class strawberry was supplied from Kherson oblast in plastic blisters 1 kilo each. Exactly this strawberry has been sold the fastest, despite of the price of USD 1.97/kg", A. Yarovoy said.
The AMP experts prove that today the investments to the modern production technologies, packing and storing of this berry let pay off the invested money much quicker that in case of the acreage extension. Some farms started to utilize the modern marketing practices, they sell the already packed produced supplied by the trucks-refrigerators; and the trend of such farms increase has been traced distinctly during the recent years. Besides, to the experts' opinion, the premium produce market will be extending in the nearest future, that is predetermined first of all by the income growth among the population.
