Odesa oblast farmers face difficulties selling the produced onion
The farmers - vegetable producers from the South of Odesa oblast inform that it is problematic to sell early bulb onion. The producers report about a good onion harvest produced from seedlings, even better than a year ago. The wholesale buyers, who purchase onion directly in the farms, pay not more than USD 0.1/kg. Such price level is no doubt created by the significant remoteness of the southern rayons of Odesa oblast - the main vegetable producers - from the oblast center (180-230 km). Though, this situation will soon influence the price level on bulk sets of onion in Odesa oblast in the whole.
According to the data of daily price monitoring, conducted by the Agricultural Marketing Project, today (07/25/2005) early bulb onion costs USD 0.16-0.18/kg on Kopani wholesale
