Russia enters FAO on Jan. 1, 2006

According to a spokesman for Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Russia confirms its readiness to enter UN Food and Agriculture Organization since January 1, 2006. The spokesman said the agreement had been reached at a meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and General Director of FAO Jacques Diuf.

"Russia's enrolment into FAO will allow making cooperation within this organization more efficient and bring it onto a new level", said the spokesman, adding that Diuf had expressed hope that the experience of Russian party would be useful for the organization.
