Market looks forward onion price increase in November 2005
The results of the wholesale price monitoring show that onion prices in Ukraine remain relatively stable. In the majority of regions the wholesale price on this commodity fluctuates within USD 0.16-0.2/kg. Still the demand on onion remains quite good even on that price. To the opinion of market players, the price keeps on this level only due to the active supplies done by farmers who do not possess own vegetable storages. However, to their mind, as soon as in November the price will start to grow cause the supply from such producers tends to decrease significantly.
In the whole, market players say that by the end of 2005 onion may grow expensive on USD 0.03-0.04/kg in average. At the present moment the average wholesale prices on onion have already exceeded 30-35% past year prices (equivalent to USD 0.04/kg).
According to the prognosis done by the Agricultural Marketing Project, onion production in Ukraine can increase 5-7% this year up to the top record for recent years. Inner demand on this commodity is able to grow too, as the supplies of imported onion tend to decrease, and needs of processing enterprises and trading chains - to increase.
