Bird flu suspected in a North-Caucasian region

Stavropol Krai (a North-Caucasian steppe area region, one of the major producers of grain crops and other agriproducts) got into the list of Russia's regions, where bird flu infection has been suspected.

Thus, ITAR-TASS news agency cited the Head of Russia's state authority for agricultural control (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergey Danquert as saying that "in one of the settlements of Stavropol Krai mass deaths of poultry have been registered".

The causes of the murrain are said to be investigated at the moment.
