Vegetable prices continue growing

This week price growth on vegetables continued in Ukraine. According to the price monitoring on wholesale produce markets in three regions, conducted by the Agricultural Marketing Project, the rate of vegetable price increase slowed done, though it is still going on. Past week the most rapid price growth is observed for potato which grew 8-40% expensive depending from the region. Potato prices reached USD 0.33-0.37/kg in the deficit regions, and USD 0.27-0.29/kg in the regions producing traditionally more potato.

Onion price grew 10-22%. The main reason for it is shortened supply done by small farms, not able to store large volumes; large vegetable storages will start selling produce not earlier than mid November.

Carrot price remained stable in the majority of the regions; however, it increased 10-20% in some oblasts. Red beets grew expensive nearly everywhere, 12-25% depending from the region.

Tomato, pepper and cabbage prices remained on the same level, still the prices fluctuated in some regions. Cucumber price has not changed significantly this week, still the supply of cheap low quality cucumbers shortened.
