Bird flu in Russia expanding
Press-service of Russia's agriculture ministry with reference to Federal Service for Veterinary and Phyto-Sanitary Control (Roselkhoznadzor) informed that in the settlement of Omsk Oblast (West Siberia), earlier suspected to contain a bird flu nidus, the diagnosis of bird flu had been confirmed by laboratory tests. The order is being currently prepared of imposing quarantine regime onto the village. The operative headquarter on bird flu is also deciding upon slaughtering the whole poultry stock in the village as a preventive measure against the spread of infection.
It has been also reported that a potentially affected settlement has been revealed in Tambov Oblast (a region in the Central Black Soil area, about 500 km south-east of Moscow).
Another potentially bird flu affected settlement has been registered in Kurgan Oblast (a region east of Urals, close to Kazakhstan's border). The authorities are deciding upon the quarantine measures.
