Polish produce market expects abrupt price drop
Produce prices may decrease abruptly in January unless Russia raises an embargo on Polish fruits and vegetables, to the opinion of the participants of the second international conference-exhibition AGF Polska, held on November 16th-17th in Warsaw. Exactly in January active export of Polish produce to Russia starts as a result of the seasonal import tax decrease.
Polish exporters traditionally sell to Russian large volumes of apple, pear and onion, so that the price decrease may happen only for these products. It is worth mentioning that market has already started to react on banned export by price decrease on main export commodities. To the experts' opinion, the export supplies to Russia were banned because of the false certificates presented by Holland firms supplying flowers to Russian market.
It is interesting to mention that in connection with the banned export to Russia many Polish companies are showing vivid interest to the Ukrainian market, as it is very hard to reorient produce supplies to the EU countries in short terms. In particular, several trading companies and large producers got interested to participate in the second international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005" to be held December 5th-7th, 2005 in Kyiv.
