Inexpensive Egypt strawberry came to Ukrainian market
According to the information provided by Price Monitoring Specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, a relatively inexpensive Egypt strawberry is sold in some trading chains in Ukraine. Strawberry costs $ 8.8/kg on Kyiv wholesale market and $ 2.35-3/kg in the mentioned trading chains. The product is packed in plastic boxes - blisters 250 g each, it is of relatively good marketable look; consequently strawberry meets a good demand.
We'll remind that in 2005 Ukraine decreased significantly import taxes for fresh and canned produce. In particular, import tax for fresh and cooled strawberry was EUR 0.6/kg and is decreased 20% for the period from the 1st of August till the 30th of April. Even in view of the decreased import tax the retail price on strawberry of $ 2.35/kg seems to be unreal low, as than it should cost $ 1.25/kg on border.
