Severe Frosts Damage Stored Vegetables in L'viv Oblast

According to information provided by the Agricultural Marketing Project's L'viv Office, low temperatures partially damaged cabbage, carrots and red beets being stored by producers in the oblast. During past two days nightly temperatures dropped down to -26°C and daily temperatures were -15 and -16°C respectively. Typically, the majority of produce is not stored in specialized storage facilities, but in piles. Additional measures to protect the stored produce (insulating with straw) were taken; however, it is reliable for temperatures down to -20°C. The only comfort is that the extreme freezing temperatures are forecasted to last only one more day.
