Ukraine to test import bird flu vaccines
In the nearest time Ukraine will test the usage of Chinese and Dutch vaccines against the H5N1 strain of bird flu virus, Head of State Department for Veterinary Medicine Ivan Bisiuk said to a news conference on Wednesday.
He said that Ukraine might start vaccination of poultry should positive results of the tests be received.
"If we get proofs that the vaccine keeps the immunity and that birds are not caught by the infection, the issue will be solved. But according to the information we got from the US and Russia, the vaccines just prevent the flocks from deaths but do not prevent birds from carrying the virus", Bisiuk said, adding that this is not acceptable for Ukraine, as viability of the virus is dangerous for human's health.
"When a housewife will get to cutting the bird and handling it, it is not excluded that a human gets infected", the chief veterinary said.
