Odesa wholesalers have difficulties selling small wholesale sets of carrot; they expect cabbage prices to decrease

Market players inform about the difficulties they face while selling small wholesale carrot sets, according to the information provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist, Odesa office, Agricultural Marketing Project. Some market players think this situation is caused by carrot supplied from the western oblasts of Ukraine. Small wholesale sets are offered on $0.49-0.88/kg; however, vendors are able to sell small volumes of good quality carrot on around $ 0.49-0.58/kg. The results of retail price monitoring prove that an average (the most common) carrot price has decreased from $0.68 to 0.58/kg this week.

However, the situation in the elite class carrot segment is quite different. Odesa producers of the quality carrot are satisfied with the rates of the product sales through supermarkets; they inform that the recent wholesale sets have been sold on $ 0.78/kg.

Price situation for white cabbage remained stable enough past two-three weeks. However, according to the information provided by the market players, a rather large cabbage set arrived from Georgia (about 25 wagons). Its quality is reported to be lower than the local cabbage quality. Still, small wholesale sets are sold on $ 0.35-0.39/kg, and local suppliers started to decrease prices as they have pretty much cabbage stored.
