National greenhouse cucumber presses the prices on Odesa market

According to the data of weekly price monitoring conducted by the specialists of the Agricultural Marketing Project on "Privoz" market, the retail prices on Turkish greenhouse cucumber decreased from $2.35 to 1.47-1.56/kg. The information is provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist, Odesa office, Agricultural Marketing Project. It was caused by mass supply of greenhouse cucumber produced by Nikolayev greenhouse complex. This cucumber is offered $2.05/kg in small wholesale; despite of it, "prickly" national greenhouse cucumber is much more popular among Odesa consumers. The vendors of imported "smooth" cucumber have to reduce prices trying to sell out the earlier purchased volumes. National cucumber is sold $ 2.15-2.35/kg in retail.

The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal report that greenhouse complexes enhance cucumber production. But, they have no possibility to store the produce, so the complexes have to decrease sales prices, as the demand on cucumber remains insufficient. In the end of week some complexes have already decreased prices from $ 1.96/kg to $ 1.56/kg. Market players suppose that this trend will be in place next week too.
