Early radish production will grow by a third this year in Zakarpattya
Thirty percent more radish seeds were sold for this season in Zakarpattya compared to the previous year, according to the information provided by the regional seed suppliers to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal. "We can expect more significant supply of early radish this year", - Lyudmila Dzjamko says, the Market Information Specialist of Zakarpattya office, Agricultural Marketing Project. Locally produced radish is sold on a freshmarket and supplied to city markets of Lviv and other cities in Western Ukraine. Early Zakarpattya radish is sold also on Kyiv markets, but here the product meets a severe competition from the side of the produce supplied from the southern regions of Ukraine.
High prices on early produce should inspire the output expansion; more producers focus attention on this sector. Thanks to the unique natural and climatic conditions Zakarpattya is able to supply early cabbage, radish, cucumber, tomato and other regions before the neighboring regions, so that local farmers get good profits. That's why the producers are actively investing into greenhouse construction, heating and irrigation systems for early vegetable production.
