Fewer chickens crossing the road into Georgia

The agriculture.com reported that the Georgia Department of Agriculture is taking steps to prevent the poultry disease avian influenza (AI) from entering the state. An emergency rule restricts the movement of poultry from states where AI is present. Earlier this year, a mild form of the disease was discovered in several states that ship live poultry and poultry products into Georgia, causing some foreign markets to ban imports. Poultry is Georgia's top agricultural commodity and accounts for an annual $300 million in exports.
