Greenhouse vegetables grow in price again because of rainy weather

According to the information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal by the specialists of the Agricultural Marketing Project, tomato and cucumber harvesting has significantly decreased in Ukrainian greenhouses because of rainy and cloudy weather in the majority of the country regions. The rates of greenhouse commodities supply declined respectively. The specialists explain by this fact the recently observed price growth.

According to the daily wholesale price monitoring results on the largest wholesale markets of Ukraine, during the recent week greenhouse tomatoes have grown 20-22% dearer, greenhouse cucumbers 5-10% more expensive in average. Greenhouse tomato prices have increased even more rapidly 60-70% during 7 recent days on Lviv wholesale market SHUVAR. The greenhouse cucumber prices have increased 45% during a week on the same market. At the same time radish has declined in price 25-35% this week.

One week is left before the Easter holidays, so the prices for greenhouse commodities will probably grow further unless the weather becomes much better. The demand for greenhouse cucumber, tomato, and bell pepper, radish and fresh herbs jumps up traditionally some days before the Easter. If the weather is better, the prices can remain on this week level. And, we can expect the importers to increase supplies of Turkish tomatoes and cucumbers by the holidays.
