Early cabbage cheapened 20% past weekend

According to the results of the wholesale price monitoring for vegetables conducted by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, early cabbage price decreased 20% in average on the wholesale markets. The small shipments of this crop cost $1.66/kg and more on SHUVAR market in Lviv, up to $2.15/kg on KOPANI market in Kherson oblast. Small wholesale shipments of early cabbage were sold for $1.96/kg in average in Kyiv later past week.

Today early cabbage costs $1.17/kg and more on SHUVAR market in Lviv; an average price is about $1.37/kg. The early cabbage price fluctuates about $1.37-1.57/kg on FARMER market in Kyiv and KOPANI market in Kherson oblast.

The early cabbage price was on the same level in the same period of time a year ago. However, many farmers harvested this crop one-two weeks later this year because of the persistent cool weather. We can also say that the demand for early cabbage is higher than the past year level. Taking into account the mentioned facts, we assume that early cabbage acreage has been significantly extended this year. So, the situation fully corresponds to the forecast of the Agricultural Marketing Project done before the season start.
