Meat consumption in Ukraine is three times lower than in Europe
UNIAN reported that according to Ukrainian Vice-Premier Kozachenko average meat consumption in Ukraine is three times lower than in Europe. He declared that presently a Ukrainian person consumes approximately 30kg of meat annually on the average. Europeans eat 93kg of meat annually. Such countries like Germany, Austria, Great Britain, and France eat above 100kg of meat annually.
The main reasons behind low meat consumption in Ukraine is low buying power of the population and rather high prices for meat and products on the domestic market.
Why these prices are so high? The Vice-Premier believes that "poor genetic potential, lack of up-to-date technologies in livestock production, no combined feeding diet for livestock, and others" lead to the situation Ukraine faces today.
