Onion continues rising in price

Onion price increased 50-80% during one week on the wholesale markets of Ukraine. According to the results of wholesale price monitoring conducted by the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, an average onion price increased from $0.43-0.49/kg up to $0.58-0.68/kg in Kyiv. Price growth has been recently observed in Lviv too, but the price for small shipments increased from $0.37-0.43 to $0.7-0.72/kg.

Shortage of onion supply is observed on all wholesale markets. Only Ukrainian onion is offered for sale on Kyiv market; mainly Polish onion is supplied to Lviv markets. We'd like to point out that today an average price for bulb onion was around $0.29/kg on BRONISZE market in Poland.

The specialists hesitate to forecast further changes of onion price, as unknown volumes of onion from cold storages will enter markets late May. And, the question remains open, what quantity of onion wholesale companies and private producers will be able to export from abroad.
