Early potato price decreased 40% during the weekend

Today early potato prices in Kyiv were 40% lower comparing to past Friday, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal informs. Early potato price fluctuates within $ 1.07-1.27/kg; on Friday this commodity was sold for $1.96-2.15/kg.

No such changes occurred on KOPANI market in Kherson oblast. Potato declined $0.05-0.09/kg in price during a weekend there; now this commodity is sold for $0.68-1.07/kg.

The same prices for early potato were observed past year. However, taking into account late potato planting and harvesting because of cold weather, the season will not be very successful for potato producers. Zakarpattya early potato producers, for example, had to plant potato nearly a month later and respectively they had to postpone significantly the harvesting terms. Some producers sold harvest mid May in 2005; this year they will start selling early potato only in June.
