Early produce squeezes past year harvested vegetables out of Odesa market
The supply of newly harvested root beets: potato, carrot and red beets is quickly growing on Odesa market. The inflow of new root beets not only cause price decrease for these commodities but also starts to influence the prices for the past year vegetables (those of medium quality, which are mainly of national origin). Average retail prices decreased $0.03-0.09/kg for potato, $0.09-0.19/kg for red beets and $0.19-0.29/kg for carrot. The prices remain stable for the best quality product, mainly for imported commodities.
Small wholesalers have already noticed the significant demand decrease for national potato of 2005 harvest. Taking into account the dynamically growing supply volumes and price decrease for early root beets, we can suppose that the price decrease for 2005 produce continues. Now, the retail price for early red beets is the same as it is for "old" red beets of high quality.
