Cucumber price decreased down to $0.29/kg in Zakarpattya
Cucumber price declined down to $0.29/kg on GID wholesale market in Mukachevo, Zakarpattya oblast. This information was provided by Lyudmila Dzyamko, the Market Information Specialist of Zakarpattya office, Agricultural Marketing Project to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal. Excessive cucumber supply was observed on market; some days ago it led to price decrease from the level of $0.49/kg. There are several reasons for cucumber price decrease; in particular, the period of active cucumber harvesting has already started. And, cucumber is harvested now by larger volumes due to warm weather and accumulation of cucumbers on fields during holidays when many farmers did not work.
Market players anticipated this situation, so cucumber price declined from $0.68/kg down to $0.49/kg by the end of past week. The price declined in line with the growing cucumber supply which met stable demand (Zakarpattya processors have not started to work yet).
Canneries will start processing activities in two weeks, and they will require cucumber as a main raw material. The price growth for cucumber is expected to happen at that time. As we have already reported, bad weather killed a part of cucumber plantings on fields, so Zakarpattya farmers will have to replant some cucumbers.
