The season of late cabbage harvesting started in Ukraine

Since the beginning of this week the harvesting of late cabbage varieties have started in farms, according to information provided by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal. Producers sell commodities for the wide price band $0.13/kg to $0.23/kg depending from quality and volumes of this crop. Many producers have not specified yet the sales price band.

The market players say, the active harvesting of late cabbage will start in 2-3 weeks; then the producers will be able to set better balanced prices. At the same time, moderate cabbage yield and consequent growth of the demand let the producers forecast relatively high prices for late cabbage varieties. The wholesale companies are actively submitting applications to buy large wholesale shipments if cabbage fits for storage. Besides, vendors point out the increased demand from the side of the producers of pickled food.

According to the forecast done by the Agricultural Marketing Project, this year Ukraine can expect the gross harvest of late cabbage to grow up to 11%. If the commodity is of high quality, if it is stored well, the mentioned volume will be enough to satisfy the demand on market. And the prices will not be higher than a year ago.
