The trend of onion price decrease is preserved on Ukrainian market

According to information provided by the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the trend of the decreasing average wholesale prices for onion is preserved this week. However, the rates of price decrease have slowed down much. Moreover, onion got somewhat expensive in the western regions of Ukraine. This fact can be explained, first of all, by high prices for this commodity in Poland.

Polish trade sources inform that an average wholesale price for onion is 50-70% higher now in Poland comparing to the past year level. For example, onion is sold for $0.31-0.43/kg on BRONISZE market near Warsaw. This price is in average 80% higher than the wholesale price for this commodity on KOPANI wholesale market in Kherson oblast.

To the opinion of the experts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, soon we can expect inner prices for onion to stabilize in Ukraine, not least because of the absence of Polish onion supplies to our market. As a result, the demand for onion grew in the western regions of our country. And, the activeness of Polish wholesale companies on Ukrainian market will positively influence the prices.

Showing their high interest in Ukrainian produce market, Polish companies have been actively registering for participation in the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open market". Large exporters of onion, apple and other vegetable commodities will participate in the conference and in the trade forum, as well as Polish companies interested to purchase Ukrainian produce for sale in Poland and the EU countries.
