Deterioration of the weather conditions in Ukraine encourages the prices for greenhouse commodities to grow

The second half of October started with deterioration of weather conditions throughout Ukraine. According to information provided by Zakarpattya office of the Agricultural Marketing Project, frosts and low temperatures in the region have nearly finished the season of field cucumber, tomato, and pepper harvesting. Night temperature fell down to 0°in the non-heated greenhouses, so a significant part of harvest has been lost.

This situation will result in the substantial price increase for greenhouse vegetables in several next weeks, according to the forecasts of the market players. This week the greenhouse complexes sell tomatoes for $0.78-0.88/kg, cucumbers for $1.17-1.47/kg; in the beginning of October 2006 the price fluctuated within the range of $0.68-0.72/kg and $0.58-0.64/kg respectively.

You can get more information about the main trends of greenhouse development and the advanced technologies of the greenhouse production during the conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" to be held on December 5th-6th 2006 in Kyiv on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine".
