Ukrainian vegetable growers finished pepper and egg-plant harvesting

The Market Information Specialists of the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal daily communicate with hundreds of producers in different regions of Ukraine. They inform that as a result of the abrupt temperature decrease farms stopped harvesting such warm-loving crops as pepper and egg-plant past week.

As a consequence, the supply of these vegetables has significantly reduced on market. The situation led to price growth primarily for quality peppers and egg-plants in the conditions of stable demand. At the present moment the wholesale prices for good-quality pepper are around $0.29-0.39/kg. The prices for red pepper have increased higher than $0.58/kg. Farmers sell good-quality egg-plants for $0.31-0.39/kg. The prices for quality produce are growing; the prices for low quality vegetables are decreasing simultaneously.

It is also worth to mention that at the present moment an average wholesale price for bell pepper is almost 30-40% lower than at the same period of time past year. An average price for egg-plant is 10-20% lower than a year ago. It is also interesting that the prices for bell pepper and egg-plant are 2-3 times lower now on Ukrainian market than in the neighboring Poland.

We'll remind that according to the forecasts done by the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, this season pepper production has grown 24%, egg-plant - 14% comparing to the past year in Ukraine. Despite of the significant growth of egg-plant and pepper production accompanied with the decreasing average prices, the producers consider this season to be quite successful. Some companies actively supplied pepper and eggplant export shipments to Baltic countries and Poland this year.
