Wholesalers explain potato supplies from Russia by low quality of national commodities

According to information provided by the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, potato shipments of Russian origin continue entering Ukrainian market. The main supplies take place on the boundary of Kharkiv and Belgorod oblasts.

The market players pointed out the increased interest to Russian potato; to their opinion, this fact could be explained by high quality characteristics and relatively low prices. Russian potato is offered for sale for $0.29/kg on the national market; this price corresponds to the average level of the wholesale prices on the market of the eastern regions of Ukraine. Also, the players say that potato quality does not always correspond to the customers' expectations in many farms of Ukraine. Besides, a significant part of the national commodities is not suitable for long-term storage.
