Georgian fresh herbs force national products out of the wholesale market of Ukraine
This week the producers in the southern oblasts of Ukraine will harvest the last dill and parsley in the forcing frames in 2006. The decreased supply has already resulted in the price growth for fresh herbs on wholesale and retail markets of Ukraine. The wholesale price for dill and parsley has grown up to $1.56/kg (some days ago the price was $0.98/kg) on KOPANI market in Kherson oblast.
The vendors are selling dill and parsley for $2.54-2.74/kg on Kyiv wholesale market; note that the most part of the commodities was imported from abroad, mainly from Georgia where the harvesting season for fresh herbs has just started.
At once several largest exporters of Georgian fresh herbs will participate in the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" on December 5th-6th 2006. During the conference a great quantity of lump-sum contracts are traditionally signed; they are focused on fresh and processed produce supplies, seeds, inputs, equipment and ag machinery delivery. On the conference two the largest Georgian fresh herbs suppliers (dill, parsley, and cilantro) will present the modern solutions for fresh herbs handling and packing. To the analysts' opinion, this season Ukraine will be the main sales market for Georgian fresh herbs, beacuse the supplies to Russian Federation have still been banned.
In order to discuss the opportunities to purchase fresh herbs from the largest suppliers in Georgia, and to study the modern methods of fresh herbs handling and packing, please register for participation in the conference till November 25th 2006. Please note your interest to negotiate with Georgian suppliers or other participants in the section "Additional requests" of the application form.
