Mixed feed production in Ukraine in 2001/02 larger than in two previous years
State Statistical Committee of Ukraine reports that mixed feeds production in June was 92,819 tonnes, which is by 1,088 tonnes less than in May 2002, but by 39,770 tonnes more than in June 2001.
As a whole, during the 2001-2002 season feed mixing plants of Ukraine produced 919,910 tonnes of product, exceeding the level of two previous seasons by 291,507 and 153,957 tonnes respectively. The growth in feed production became possible due to high 2001 crop and growing demand for full-value feeds on the part of livestock breeding industry, which had recently been developing in accelerated pace.
At the same time, animal breeders do not use all the advantages of domestic feed industry. For one thing, volumes of combined feeds production in 2001/2002 were almost 18 (!) times less than those of 1990. Another characteristic feature is continuing decline in production of protein and vitamin additives. In the past season Ukrainian plants produced 7,723 tonnes of such products, which is 100 times less than in 1990.
