Kazakhstan: farming output Jan-Jun 5% more

Gazeta.kz site posted report of state statistical agency on Kazakhstan's gross agricultural output in January - June this year, which amounted to $76.9 million in current prices, being 5.1 percent more than for the same period a year ago.

The statistics says that this year's total crops planting area has been 17.7 million hectares, which is 5.8 percent more than a year before. Area under sunflower for seed purposes has risen by 26 percent, under melons and gourds - 13 percent, grains and pulses as a whole - 6 percent, wheat - 8 percent, feed crops - 4 percent, vegetables - 1 percent. At the same time, areas under rice and cotton decreased 8 percent each, those under potato and sugar beet became 1 percent less.
