High prices is the main reason not to buy vegetables in supermarkets

According to the tentative results of the surveyed preferences of produce buyers, concluded by the Agricultural Marketing Project, the buyers are sure that the prices for vegetables and fruits are higher in supermarkets than on bazars. This is the main reason not to buy produce in supermarkets. The second and third important reasons not to buy vegetables in supermarkets are the insufficient produce assortment, and, worth to say, the habit to buy vegetables on bazars. Less important factors are uncertain freshness of the produce and lack of trust to imported products.

In their turn, bazars drawbacks are inconvenient location, non-accurate weight and poor service.

As it has been expected, potato is mostly stored for winter. Almost 80% of households store this product. Carrot occupies the second place; more than one third of households purchase this produce to use in winter.

As a result of the survey the Agricultural Marketing Project has received answers for dozens of questions regarding produce trade. The full analytic report will be presented on the conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market".
