Argentina builds up blueberry production and export
According to information of Fructidor International, the production and export of cultivar blueberry have been actively increasing in Argentina in the recent years. 3,000 tons of these berries were harvested in 2005; 2,700 tons of blueberries were exported. According to the source information, the export sales of blueberry brought the total revenue worth to $ 25 mln. The experts are analyzing the trends of the extension of blueberry cultivation areas; to their opinion, blueberry production in Argentina will grow at least till 2011 when all blueberry acreage, which exists at the present moment in the country, will reach maturity.
Ukraine has not paid enough attention to the development of blueberry production till recently. At the same time, Ukraine is a large exporter of wild blueberry. The Agricultural Marketing Project jointly with "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal decided to demonstrate a huge potential of cultivar blueberry production in Ukraine during the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market". On that purpose the expert with 25 years experience of this crop professional production was invited to participate in the conference.
To the opinion of Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project, during ten years Ukraine will be able to join the leading berry countries in Europe. Our country is able to get a larger profit exporting produce comparing to the overall profit gained due to grain and oil crops and processed products.
