Most buyers prefer picking fruits and vegetables by the piece
According to the survey of the preferences of the produce consumers, conducted by the Agricultural Marketing Project jointly with In-Mind company, most produce buyers like to pick fruits and vegetables by the piece. Around 60% of the buyers wished to pick tomatoes, apples, and cucumbers by themselves. Twelve to fourteen percent of buyers are ready to buy the mentioned products in polyethylene packing; a less quantity of buyers would like to buy them in net bags.
During the field stage of the survey about 40% of the respondents expressed interest to purchase new type of produce - fresh-cut vegetable salads.
Purchasing produce in supermarkets, buyers are ready to pay for convenience and comfort, additional handling and quality assurance of the supermarket produce.
Also, more than one third of the respondents pointed out that the consumption of fresh vegetables is insufficient in their families.
