Russian producers of fruits and vegetables will construct new storages

The questions of food procurement, including fruit and vegetable supplies, were discussed on the recent meeting of the government of Moscow. Mr. Vladimir Resin, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow Government said that it is more feasible to construct new vegetable storages on the territory of the agricultural enterprises who supply the capital with fruits and vegetables. To his opinion, it is economically inappropriate to locate large produce bases on the territory of Moscow, if the rent cost in the capital is taken into consideration.

According tо information provided by the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, there are several large enterprises - vegetable producers in Moscow oblast (they mostly grow potato, cabbage, carrot and table beet) to satisfy the capital's demand. Such enterprises have contracts to supply produce to wholesale companies and directly to the retail chains. Often they independently storage, additionally handle and pack the supplied vegetables.
