The price growth for onion in Netherlands is able to provoke the onion price hike in Ukraine

The prices for onion have increased in average 15% since the previous week in Netherlands which is the so-called barometer country of European produce market. The primary reason of the price growth is the deficit of the quality product shipments on market. An average price for onion exceeded EUR0.36/kg in the end of week in Netherlands.

According to information provided by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal, the current onion price is 2.5 times as high this year than the price recorded at the same time in 2006 in Netherlands. The price growth for onion in Poland and Netherlands can provoke another expansion of onion shipments from Ukraine to the EU countries.

To the opinion of Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the price growth of the quality onion in Ukraine can come into reality in the coming weeks on the background of the increasing activeness of Russian importers on Ukrainian produce market.
