Russians prefer buying national cucumber

According to information provided by the market players of the Russian Federation to the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the price difference for the imported and national cucumbers is much higher this season than at the same period of time in 2006. The prices for the imported and national cucumber differed 15-20% past year; national cucumber was supplied for sale for a higher price.

As of today, the imported produce is supplied for $1.9-2.66/kg; the produce of the national greenhouse complexes is sold 30-35% more expensive, i.e. $3.04-3.8/kg.

The specialists explain such a noticeable price difference by the fact that Russians are coming to pay more attention for the produce quality. In its turn, this circumstance is caused by the income increase. The surveys prove that the citizens of Russia consider national vegetable products to be of a better quality regarding the content of the residuals of the plant protection assets, fertilizers and other chemicals in them. However, the demand growth for the national produce is not saturated by the respective expansion of the greenhouse complexes' capacities.
