The consumption and import of citrus fruits decline

The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal inform that the quantity of citrus fruits supplies gradually decreases on the inner market. The market players explain this circumstance by the seasonal reduction of citrus fruits supplies to the national market on the background of the declining demand for these products from the side of the vendors on the grocery retail markets.

As of today, the supermarkets, restaurants and other catering service enterprises feature the same high demand. Nevertheless, in the close perspective these organizations will also reduce the volumes of the purchased citrus and exotic fruits responding to the market saturation with the newly harvested fresh produce. As of the present moment, Turkey, Egypt and Israel are the main supplier of citrus fruits to Ukraine; there are products of Cyprian and Spanish origin on market.

The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal point out that the prices for citrus fruits go beyond the figures recorded in 2006. For example, the prices for oranges increased 7%, for lemons - 16%, for tangerines - 17% comparing to the previous year.
