Ukraine exported bulb onion to 15 world countries in season 2006/07

The analysts of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal" inform that in season 2006/07 Ukraine has become the net exporter of fresh bulb onion for the first time in the history; the country rapidly increased the export supplies and gave up purchasing imported shipments. Ukraine has imported 24,800 tons of onion as of four months before the end of season - this figure is 715 times as much than the volume exported during the whole previous season!

A broad geography of Ukrainian onion export impresses as well. Past season the export supplies of fresh bulb onion were performed to 15 countries. Poland was the largest buyer of Ukrainian onion; 37% of the export is allocated for this country. Russia and Romania were huge importers as well; respectively 31% and 13% of export shipments supplied. Estonia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Moldova, Belarus, Latvia and Germany are the large onion buyers: they imported 320 to 920 thousands of tons of Ukrainian onion in the mentioned period of time. Georgia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Netherlands and Greece are among the importers of Ukrainian onion as well.

According to the forecasts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal experts, Ukrainian wholesalers will be able to supply around 15 thousands of tons more during the other 4 months of the season. The specialists think onion export may significantly decline in a new season.
