Russia: tomato oversupply predetermines low prices this season

The experts of CIS produce business journal "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" inform, as of today, the prices for greenhouse tomato are lower than the past year level at almost the whole territory of European part of Russia. To the opinion of the specialists of the wholesale companies, the increased supplies of Turkish tomatoes predetermined this circumstance this season, so that the total quantity of tomato supplies has grown. In this regard the national greenhouse complexes do not have an opportunity to sell their produce for affordable prices. As of today, the prices for greenhouse tomato have declined down to $1.3-1.7/kg; one year ago the complexes set the sales price range not lower than $2.1-2.3/kg.

To the opinion of the specialists of the national greenhouse complexes, the further expansion of the imported tomato on Russian market is able to make the prices for national products decline down to production cost level.
