Is Ukrainian mushroom production threatened by imported produce? "Veres" company opinion
Relatively large volumes of cultivated mushrooms (predominantly champignons) of foreign origin are sold on Ukrainian market. Poland is the major champignon supplier on Ukrainian market. The imported produce allocates even greater part in the segment of canned mushrooms comparing to the fresh market. In this case the geography of the supplies is much broader: mostly Asian countries export canned mushrooms.
What should mushroom producers expect from their foreign competitors? Are there really some objective competitive advantages of mushroom production, which let Polish mushroom preserve or increase its share on Ukrainian market? Or, is it up to the foreign colleagues of Ukrainian mushroom producers to be threatened to lose their market in the perspective, as some experts think? What does the competitiveness of Ukrainian cultivated mushrooms depend on? Which efforts should be done to increase the competitiveness? All these questions will be addressed on the international conference "Mushroom Industry 2007".
In the framework of the conference Yuri Alekseev-Sokolov, the Director of "Ukrchampignon" company, the largest in Ukraine mushroom producer and the member of "Veres" company group, will make the presentation "Import threat: is the fear groundless?" During his presentation Yuri will cover the key factors able to influence the competitiveness of the national mushrooms on the inner market. He will also present his vision of the industry perspectives.
