Prices for bulb onion of 2006 harvest go on growing

The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the CIS produce business periodical, observe the increasing prices for onion of 2006 harvest. This situation is typical for almost all regions of Ukraine.

The steady buoyant trend is caused by the seasonal reduction of high quality onion supplies on inner market. Also, the active sales of national onion to the market of the Russian Federation have been still supporting the prices.

As of today, the resellers set the wholesale price for quality onion on the level up to $0.34-0.5/kg depending on the shipment size; the market players admit the possibility of the further price growth in this segment.

According to the forecasts done by the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the prices for onion 2006 will be kept on high level at least until the large shipments of newly harvested produce enter the market. The producers from the southern oblasts and Zakarpattya say that active supplies of early bulb onion to the inner market of Ukraine are likely to start mid June. From that moment on the demand for past year onion will gradually decline in line with the price decrease.
