Drought will considerably update the harvest prospects in several regions of Ukraine

Several regions of Ukraine have been suffering from the absence of rainfalls on the background of a very high average temperature for more than a month. The farms from the drought-affected regions inform the specialists of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal" about this fact.

In particular, as a result of drought the cabbage plantings have been completely lost, and the harvest potential for potato, carrot, onion and table beet has been significantly reduced in several districts of Sumy and Chernihiv regions and some other regions of the Central Ukraine, where no irrigation is normally applied. The plantings of late vegetables and potato suffered the most; these products comprise the most part of the produce harvest in these regions.

Also, the yield of strawberry has significantly declined; the berries were of twice-thrice smaller size than normally, they looked like wild strawberry. As a result, many household farms harvested produce only for the own consumption, although normally they used to sell a part of the grown produce on markets.

At the present moment ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" tries to evaluate the loss caused by the drought and high temperature in various regions of Ukraine; the periodical plans to update the production and price forecast for fruits and vegetables in Ukraine.
