Ukraine: cucumber market collapse goes on
The price collapse has still been observed on cucumber market in Ukraine. "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal informs, today the farms of southern regions sell field cucumber for the prices which seldom exceed $0.1-0.16/kg; in some cases the cucumber shipment is offered for $0.05/kg. Cucumbers from film greenhouses are mostly available on markets of the other regions; the prices for this product have also declined almost twice since the beginning of this week.
Cucumber supply grows rapidly because of hot weather, but the sales volumes remain unchanged. The most part of sales is done on the inner fresh market in the country. The producers are seriously daunted with the market circumstances, because the harvest perspectives are quite great in many farms. At the same time, they can't count on high purchase activity from the side of the processors this season: the warehouses of many canneries are overfilled with past year canned products.
