Ukraine will create intervention sugar fund
Government of Ukraine is planning to develop till October 1 a mechanism of sugar market regulation, which will stipulate creation of intervention sugar fund with the aim of stabilising sugar market during seasonal fluctuations of sales volumes and prices. During September proposals also should be prepared for sugar and sugar-containing goods exchange trade development.
Besides that, till December 1 there should be developed a draft government resolution about quota establishment and mandatory minimal sugar and sugarbeet prices approval for the marketing year 2003/04 (September 1 - August 31).
The government also envisages separate measures for strengthening protection of domestic market from illegal imports of white sugar and sugar-containing goods. To this purpose, it has ordered corresponding state controlling bodies to ensure permanent control over wholesale sugar prices.
Cabinet of Ministers has also charged Agrarian Ministry to perform a complex inspection and state registration of sugar industry enterprises with the aim of distributing among them a production quota, to provide supplies of domestic market in the amount of 1.8 million tonnes.
