Kyiv annually consumes fruits, vegetables and potato worth to $ 1.3 billion

According to evaluations of CIS produce business periodical, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", Kyiv city, the capital of Ukraine, annually consumes more fruits, vegetables and potato than any other region of Ukraine measuring the product cost. Vegetables, fruits, berries and potato, consumed by Kyiv, are worth up to $ 1.3 billion per year - the citizens of the capital annually spend exactly this sum of money to buy produce items.

Kyiv people spend the greatest amount of money to buy fruits and berries, despite of the fact that their share is relatively small as for the quantity. The thing is, a considerable part of the expensive imported fruits is sold in Kyiv, while the cheaper produce is sold in the regions. Also, the prices for fruits are much higher than the price for vegetables and potato, that's why fruit trade brings a greater profit, as a rule.

Because of the price growth for potato observed in the recent years, now this product occupies a rather great specific weight in the expenses for fruits&vegetables born by the citizens of the capital. At the same time, vegetable cost constitutes just 22-25% of the total volumes of the produce trade, though the assortment of vegetables is constantly extending. Just 1% of the turnover is allocated for watermelons and melons as for their cost, as large volumes of these products are sold only in July-September.

Meeting New Leader", to be held on December 4th - 5th 2007 on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" in Kyiv.
